I purchased the car from an SCCA EP racer in 1992. Per the logbook which
dated back to 1972, I am the 4th owner. The car started life as a 66 4A solid axle.
In 1981, the frame was replaced with a frame from a TR4. The previous owner qualified for
the Runoffs (tm) in 1985 from the SE Division but did not attend. The car essentially sat
from 1985 until I bought the car. When I bought the car, the engine was siezed. I replaced
the engine with a stock engine out of a parts car and attended a Midwestern Council
drivers' school in September of 1992, where my instructor was Peter Egan. At the
conclusion of the school, I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted to do to the car.
After 7 years of off and on restoration and rebuilding, it returned
to the track in June 1999. Carb problems troubled us at the first event
(Blackhawk Classic at Blackhawk Farms), they were diagnosed by FOT Tony Drews. At the
second event (VSCDA @ Grattan), tremendous progress was made, and at my 3rd and final
event of the year (Indianapolis Raceway Park), the car ran great. Now I need to learn how
to drive it.
I am making some minor improvements to the car this winter, and
hope to run 5-6 events in 2000. Irv Korey
