The Event:    50th Anniversary of the TR - All Triumph Race

Where:          Mid-Ohio

When:            June, 2002

Triumph Road Racers who have expressed interest in participating:

Name State Car type Prep Comments
1 Joe Alexander IA TR4 Vintage Event Organizer
2 Henry Frye CT TR4 Vintage Event Web Coordinator
3 John Frymark CA TR4A IRS Vintage Would like to discuss car transport ideas with other West Coast racers
4 John Fridirici WI TR3A Vintage Car ran SCCA in the Northeast in the 60's and has been running SVRA, VSCDA, and in Canada in the late 80's / early 90's. It ran at the 1992 event and we fully intend to be at the 2002 event.
5 Frank Axlelrod MI Spitfire SCCA Racer since 1973
6 Jim Hill WI TR6 Vintage Attending this race will _BE_ the historical significance of my TR6 vintage racer. I still maintain that it's the vintage of the DRIVER that counts, and I'm certainly 'historical', although hardly 'significant'.
7 Jeff Wilt TX TR3A Vintage 15 year vintage history documented, before that ???? CVAR RMVR current
8 Bob (Butch) Davis FL TR4 Vintage This 1962 TR4 was first built as a racer by Rick Cline around 1970.
9 Cary Perket MN TR3A Vintage The car has visited every runoff area on the Road America track at least once.
10 Mike Jackson FL TR3B Vintage Thanks to Joe and Henry for working for an event like this. '92 was just unbelievable.
11 Bill Dentinger WI TR3 Vintage This car is an early TR3, and the 13th vehicle produced with Disc Brakes. Except for a short period in the mid-1970s (perhaps six months), this car has been a race car all of its life. To my knowledge, it is the oldest Triumph in the USA still racing.
12 David Wingett MI TR6 SCCA Current E Prod. Nat level car. The historical significance is that it is one of the last TR6's still competing against more modern cars.
13 Glen Effinger FL TR6 Vintage Yes! I should have faster tow vehicle by then. 3 days each way from Florida in "Victoria", my dear Landy, was OK in '92 but I'm too old for it now!

Neither I nor my car has any historical significance whatsoever other than aforementioned age factor.

14 Jack Coffey TN TR250 Vintage
15 Brad Eells CA

TR4

Vintage 1971-73 Pennsylvania Hillclimb Assc. Competitor. 1974 NE Ohio DP region champion. SCCA Competitor 1974-79. ICSCC (WA/OR) Competitor 1980-86.
16 Jeff Jankiewicz IN TR3A Vintage
17 Don Brick IA TR4 Vintage Raced this car since 1987, about 80-90 races over 14 years. This scares me as it must mean I've spent about $100M and I would have spent a lot more if I ever bought tires!!
18 Irv Korey IL TR4 Vintage When still being run in SCCA, the car qualified for the Runoffs (tm) from the Southeast Division in 1985
19 Bob Kramer TX TR4 Vintage I will do my best to promote the event in Texas for both racers and cars for the show. Unless I surprise myself and finish the TR4A, I will be in the TR4, which is not historically significant at all. The TR4A was the SW Division D Prod champ twice. Now it's just a collection of parts!
20 Russ Moore NY Spitfire Vintage Having been a part of the 1992 event I look forward to the next. I'll be there.
21 Jeffrey Sentry WI Spitfire SCCA
22 Don Sopp NY Spitfire Vintage
23 Bob Wismer IL TR3 Based Special Vintage TR3 powered 1959 Tornado Thunderbolt. Raced in England 1960-61. Won the Motor Club Six-Hour Relay Race at Silverstone in 1960.
24 Dean Tetterton VA TR3A Vintage The only historical significance for this car is that I have owned it since 1964. This is the first car I bought and got it when I got out of college. The driver and car are both "Vintage".
25 Jeff Snook OH TR3A Vintage
26 Jeff Snook OH TR3 Based Special Vintage 1957 Devin
27 Robert Ames CO TR3 Based Special Vintage Ambro Triumph #002 built by my father Bill Ames in 1959/60. Raced in the Midwest in the early 60's. The car was restored in the late 80's-early 90's when Bill again raced it as a vintage car in the east and Northeast until his death in 1997. It is now run with RMVR and Nostalgia racing in Colorado and New Mexico. In the winter of 2000/01 the Ambro received a complete ground up restoration by Tom Ellis of Thomas Vintage Motors in Boulder CO.
28 Richard Hardison TX TR3A Vintage Car was raced in Ohio SCCA in early 1960's by Mike Wolfe, who I cannot find.
29 Dave Talbott OR TR4 Vintage
30 Susan Hensley TX Spitfire Vintage I am really looking forward to this event! 2000 was GREAT, and 2002 will be even better!
31 Steve Benford Jr IL TR4A Live Axle Vintage Car is not finished yet, but I hope to have the car ready for 2002 season.
32 Don Marshall FL TR4A IRS Vintage Runoff's winner in 1990 (Jack Wheeler). Has since been retro'd to vintage specs.
33 Ken Gillanders CA TR2   I will be there. As to whether we bring a car or not ,its a year away
& we will see.
34 Vernon Brannon NC TR8 Vintage Ken Slagle TR8 that won the SCCA C Production championship in 1981
35 Vernon Brannon NC Vitesse Vintage 1969 Triumph Vitesse raced and built by Mike Rockett. It won the SCCA Northwest Championship three times and placed 4th and 6 the in the runoffs
36 Vernon Brannon NC Spitfire Vintage ADU 4B was raced by the factory in 1965. It placed second at Sebring and first is class at LE Man. It still is in its orginal paint except for the yellow stripe
37 Jack Drews IL TR4 Vintage Very early car (CT 2910 L) prepared to 1960's SCCA rules.
38 Jim Sheffield OH TR4 Vintage
39 Ed Ceilley IA GT6 Vintage
40 Mike Perry FL GT6 Vintage
41 Ted Schumacher OH TR8 Vintage Fastest TR8 to qualify for run-off's, then run as a pro car in the Playboy and Escort Endurance Series
42 Ted Schumacher OH Spitfire Vintage Group 44 Spit that I bought and ran in '73. This is the John Kelley driven car.
43 Ted Schumacher OH GT6 Vintage Group 44 GT6. The car we ran at Sebring, the fastest TR to qualify for the 12 hour. The Group 44 TR8 was faster but qualified on the new 4.2 mile course while we qualified on the old 5.2 mile course.
44 Joe Boruch CT TR3 SCCA The car has been a race car at least since the late 60's. Lou Gigliotti, now of Trans-Am
fame, raced the car from 71 to 73. This was his first race car. He ran nationals in 73 and went to the run-offs. He had set a lap record at Watkins Glen in the car, and beat Group 44 at Pocono in the rain. Drew Wagner raced the car from 74 to 78+- and sold it in 81. The car sat around until I bought it in 94. I run with the SCCA in the Volvo Historic Series.
45 John Hornbostel Japan TR3B Vintage Originally based on a TR-3A developed by Brian Furstenau. #44 campaigned by Mike Belfer from 1968. Rebuilt in late '70's as TR-3B, run in SCCA, Midwest Council and VSCDA events for the past 20+ yrs.
46 Tim Suddard FL TR3 Vintage This is the Grassroots Motorsports TR3
47 Mordy Dunst CA TR4A Vintage This 1966 TR4A was built to racing spec. By Steve Froines at his Cal Auto shop. Steve won SCCA National in EP the year previously. He wanted to try the new IRS suspension to see how it would work. He was a bit uncomfortable with it, he said and sold it in 1967 to a fellow who then raced it in the Portland area. One of the problems that Froines had was breakage of rear hubs. Kastner paid to have 6 special "bullet proof" hubs made for this and two other cars. Those hubs are still strong and solid 35 continual racing seasons later.
48 Richard Jensen MN TR6 Vintage Stan Turnbower puchased the car new, drove it home and immediately converted to SCCA race trim. Campaigned by Stan until his death as a result of a racing accident at Ponco City in this car. The car was purchased from his estate by Mike Ryan of Des Moines and again campaigned until the early eighties. I purchased the car from Mike in 1987 and returned it to the correct body shape and style for vintage competition and have raced it ever since.
49 Dave Brackin SC TR3 Vintage Wow, 50 years, I'd better get a coat of wax on that baby!!!

66 Mark Wheatley NH TR4 Vintage This car was once owned by Charles Kates and did race at the '92 event

68 Andy Stark MO GT6 Vintage Brand new car built to SCCA E-Prod specs. The car is all steel and really looks more vintage than current SCCA. All internal components are 72 or earlier legal prep.
69 Pete Kennerley England TR4   I hope to come over with a group of UK TR register races. The car is probably more developed than you guys allow in your regs, but we'd like to come over and take part anyway.

73 Rich Bolton MA TR3A Vintage I recently purchased this car from John Harkness of Ohio who has raced it over the last several years. I’m new to the sport and hopefully will get all the licensing requirements and rookie races out of the way by June! I look forward to bringing the car back to Ohio to a track where it has been raced many times before.
74 Dale Will CO 1936 Triumph Gloria Southern Cross   This car is one of two in the USA and one of perhaps a dozen on the road anywhere. Early comp history is likely but unknown. I autocrossed at the 2001 VTR national  and, while quite the oldest car, was nowhere near the slowest. The car is essentially stock. The 1.8L Healey designed Triumph motor is not original to this car, though was available as special spec from the factory.

Triumph Autocrossers who have expressed interest in participating:

A1 Bob Lang MA TR6 Modified I'll probably drag my prepared autocrosser to this event. Technically, right now, the car is prepared to vintage 1972 Specs, but I don't road race (yet).
A2 Greg Petrolati IL TR4 Modified It's a "bitsa" that's been massaged a mite.
A3 John Wiseman OH TR6 Modified I am interested in autocrossing at this event if we can work it out. Also would be available to help others who might need a hand at the road racing event.
A4 Marty Sukey OH TR6
A5 Jack Brooks NJ TR3A Modified Unless I bring the TR8
A6 Doug Ross NC TR3A Modified My car is set up as my 1958 car was in SCCA racing in the late 50's early 60's By today's standards not a vintage racer. Would like to run Autocross though for fun!
A7 Wendy & Al Hart PA TR6 Modified We'll haul the sticky tires on the TR6's trailer if there's an autocross, other wise we'll put the cooler & chairs there. Car is non-historic and loosely follows SCCA Solo 2 FP rules. We might also be able to help racers during the weekend.
A8 Rob Wilfong OH TR8 Modified If there is an autocross I will be there with my 8 ready to go.
